Dear Beltie Friends,
My number one goal as the Southwest Belted Galloway Association president is to promote the integrity of the Belted Galloway breed. The SBGA tries to provide as many opportunities for promotion of the breed as possible.
One way to achieve this goal is to show our Belties. I know that showing is not for everyone but it provides great exposure for the public to become familiar with the breed. In October 2017, Belties were invited for the first time to participate in the Heart O’ Texas Livestock Show and Fair in Waco. We had several spectators interested in learning about the Belties and some were even interested in purchasing them.
The SBGA is working toward having Beltie classes in more local and major shows in Texas to help promote the breed. Allowing youth to show your Belties in local shows is a wonderful way to give back to your community and help get youth involved with livestock. I grew up showing and learned so many valuable lessons that I probably would not have learned otherwise. To this day, I am still grateful to those who supported me along the way. Please contact one of the board members or me if you even have a small interest in showing. We will be happy to assist you in getting started and continuing along the way.
Hosting educational events, field days and our annual meeting are activities we have throughout the year. We hope you will be able to join us for some of these upcoming fun-filled Beltie days. These are wonderful opportunities for you to meet fellow breeders and learn more about raising cattle.
Increasing interest in the Belties is beneficial for us all as we grow our herds, diversify our bloodlines and sell our offspring. The SBGA is always open to opportunities to promote the breed and to suggestions for improving the organization. Please reach out to any one of us on the board with your ideas.
